Pininfarina’s Battista has been named the world’s fastest accelerating production car since February. The electric hypercar set a record of ¼ mile in 8.55 seconds and a ½ mile result of 13.38 seconds at the Natrax test facility in India. This also earns the Battista the honour as the fastest car driven on Indian soil.

Automobili Pininfarina teamed up with the Indian branch of British magazine Autocar to set both records on the NATRAX circuit. Hormazd Sorabjee and Renuka Kirpalani of Autocar India joined the Italian brand’s performance, testing and validation team, including development driver Stefano Costa, with the aim of demonstrating exceptional performance. Hormazd Sorabjee achieved a top speed of 358.03 km/h on the track with the Battista, surpassing the previous Indian top speed record of 332 km/h. Later, Renuka Kirpalani clocked 357.10 km/h, which resulted in the record for fastest female Indian driver in the world. Both top speed records were validated by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the Indian sports organisation affiliated to the FIA.

“For Hormazd and his Autocar India team, it is hugely important to show what is possible with Battista in their hands. We have designed the Battista as a hyper GT – a special blend of beautiful design and attention to detail synonymous with the Pininfarina brand – coupled with extreme electrified performance and a level of vehicle dynamics that sets a new benchmark among hypercars. In these tests, Battista has shown that any driver on the road or on the track can enjoy record-breaking performance.” Says Paolo Dellachà, CEO of Automobili Pininfarina.

In 2022, the Battista also set a series of world records at the test base inin Nardò. In doing so, Battista’s unique launch control technology ensured it has faster acceleration than a Formula 1 car, with 0-100 km/h in 1.86 seconds, 0-100 km/h in 4.49 seconds and 0-200 km/h in just 4.75 seconds. Official tests also confirmed that the Battista achieved the shortest stopping distance of any electric vehicle in the world, going from 100-0 km/h in just 31 metres.
