Description
The E30 M3 is the very first M3 and was developed by BMW Motorsport as a homologation model for Group A touring car racing. Production ran roughly from 1986 to around 1991; the 1988 model is ééone of the early and most characteristic evolutions.
In the ’70-’80s, several German championships existed; the DRM (Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft) was an important national class in the ’70s and early ’80s and later evolved towards the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) and Group A touring race formats. The M3 was built primarily for Group A / DTM-type competition that became dominant in the second half of the ’80s. In short, the E30 M3 was designed to race in the Group A / DTM environment that emerged from the older DRM tradition.
The E30 M3 dominated the German and European touring car championships (DTM / Group A) in the late ’80s. BMW and customer teams such as Zakspeed, Schnitzer and Linder scored numerous victories, including in long-distance races such as the Nürburgring 24 hours.
Alpina in races: participation in DTM (and Group A)
Alpina drove M3-based Group A/DTM cars’s and entered their iconic green Alpina livery in late ’80s DTM competitions. They achieved several victories and podium finishes and were active as a customer team and partner in DTM races, with well-known drivers such as Peter Oberndorfer and Christian Danner. Alpina was known for their technical innovations and precise tuning, and their M3 race cars’s have been legendary ever since and can still regularly be seen at historic DTM events.
The car we are offering here is a completely newly rebuilt BMW E30 M3 Alpina DTM/GrA, built to original specifications of the then race-winning Alpina M3 with start number 23.
Engine and technology
The engine was built by one of the most renowned engine builders in the Netherlands: Dries Bosch (Bosch Tuning).
It is a 2.3-litre 4-cylinder S14B23 engine, good for 323 hp and 312 Nm of torque. The gearbox is a Getrag bakhuis, fitted with Samsonas Dogbox internals according to Group A homologation.
FIA-approved and track-ready
The car is fitted with an FIA Passport and is thus allowed to participate in all FIA events, fully time-period correct. Airjacks are provided to allow quick tyre changes during pit stops. In addition, two extra sets of wheels are supplied, fitted with slicks and rain tyres.
Service, support and test drive
Service and track support, as well as experience with this particular car, are available by arrangement. A test drive is possible upon request; in which we will go to a track of the interested party's choice. We will then organise a trackday experience fully suited to the character and performance of this unique car. This service and test drive are not entirely free of charge and are only offered in consultation on the desired interpretation and location.
Absolutely nothing has been spared in the construction of this car. The engine compartment is very cleanly built, the homologated roll cage is fully welded through and meets the highest standards and specifications.
