About the museum

The Louwman Museum aims to present a clear and fascinating picture of the evolution of the automobile industry since 1887. Undeniably, the car has drastically changed our world and is one of the most important inventions of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Over 80 years ago, the idea arose within the Louwman family to preserve the highlights of automotive history for future generations. The Louwman Museum, founded in 1934, has since expanded and refined its collection in stages. Today, the collection includes more than 275 antique and classic automobiles. While it is impossible to display the full wealth of automotive history, an exciting and balanced collection has been assembled with an eye for historical value to provide a clear and fascinating picture of the times.

On 2 July 2010, the Louwman Museum was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix.
